On Sunday I’ll be lacing up for the North Yorkshire Challenge, a 50km walk raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support. If you’ve got a few pounds to spare, I’d be incredibly grateful, the link is at the bottom.
But I also wanted to share a bit of context, because this isn’t just one walk. It’s part of something bigger that’s been building quietly in the background all year.
What 2026 has looked like on foot
Alongside the day job and everything else life throws at you, I’ve been keeping myself moving through a series of virtual and physical challenges:
🏴 Virtual Lands End to John O’Groats, 583.2 miles logged so far, 290.8 still to go. A slow burn that keeps me honest.
🇫🇷 Escape to Provence Virtual Challenge (January), 100km of clifftop trails above the Mediterranean in my head, through olive groves and limestone outcrops from Menton toward Nice. Known as the Balcony of the Mediterranean, and easy to see why.
🏃 Virtual London Marathon (April), 26.2 miles done and ticked off.
🇪🇸 Camino de Santiago Virtual Challenge, 600km total, 220.8km completed so far. A long road, but one I’m enjoying.
☀️ Mindful Miles Summer (300km virtual), starting in July, so plenty more miles still to come.
And this Sunday: 50km live. On the ground. In real time. Which is also a dress rehearsal for the big one.
The main event: 100km along the Thames Path in September
In September I’m taking on the Thames Path Challenge, 100km for Macmillan. Sunday is the test run: the kit check, the blister audit, the proof that the legs will hold.
Macmillan does extraordinary work supporting people living with cancer and the families around them. If you’ve been touched by that in any way, and most of us have, you’ll know why it’s worth supporting.
Please donate here if you can, every pound helps.
No amount is too small, and it all adds up.
Thank you 🙏
